Makeup Artist Womens Running Magazine Cover:
What an amazing shoot!

There are some people that I am always thrilled at when I see their messages pop up on my phone, one of them is photographer James Farrell. He is one of the best sports photographers I know and I have had the pleasure to shoot with him numerous times.  I was so excited when he asked me to be the makeup artist for Women’s Running Magazine cover with him and, even more excited when I found out we were shooting Traci Copeland, an extraordinary athlete, Nike Master Trainer, Wilhelmina Model, Yogi, dancer and all around badass!

I had met Traci once before at a LuluLemon event and was excited to work with her.

It. Was. Hot.  Like, easily in the 90’s.  We went upstate to the mountains to do the shoot and any breeze we got we cherished!

I knew it would be hot AND that Traci would be running, so I needed to make sure that Traci’s makeup would hold up to that.  Luckily she has great skin, so I only really had to do a light coverage there.

For hot weather, for underwater shoots, for any reason that may make your makeup slip, Makeup Forever’s Aqua Creams are the best answer.

I used Kevyn Aucoin Skin Enhancer on the few needed areas, then I added a light cream blush to mimic the look of being lightly flushed – though by the end of the shoot, I knew the mimic would take place by the real thing.

For me, the most important piece was the eye makeup.  The last thing you want is for your eye makeup to move and run down your face with a drip of sweat -gross.  For Traci’s eyes, I used Makeup Forever’s Aqua Cream shadow in Taupe and used a waterproof mascara. Now, this shoot wasn’t about making Traci look glamorous or flawless – it was about giving her a little extra oomph and making sure she looks realistic.  Sometimes makeup artists are hired to do stunning and beautiful creative pieces and sometimes we are hired to towel and powder and hold their makeup up as much as possible – this was one of those days and I couldn’t have loved it more.
